Our Christmas Story

by Opal O. Murray – Many of us are familiar with the Christmas Story – the Birth of the Baby Jesus. We participate in the annual tradition of reading, hearing the story or maybe watching the re-enactment of Jesus’ birth.
According to the Gospel of Matthew (The Holy Bible), verses 1:18-2:11, Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem. They were visited by wise men who came from the east. The wise men were led to the family by a star. They presented precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby. We now end the reading or walk away from the play, unconsciously knowing that a year from now we will go through the routine once again.
But wait! What if we were to replay the story each of the next 365 days and live the story? This time we place ourselves in the spotlight. What if we see the star as our own star and are guided by this star? Have you ever seen the cartoon characters when an idea is being created, how the cartoonist represents the idea with a light bulb?
Let’s make the transition from the light bulb to the star – a brighter light, a more radiant light. What if we see our ideas as the guiding star? The ideas we have that we are deeply passionate about, the burning desires, the goals that we have always imagined, yearn to achieve but from which we have turned away.
The ideas that give birth to New Year’s resolutions but which we ignore before we flip the calendar to March. Maybe it is enrolling in school, or taking a trip or starting a business or seeking more fulfilling employment. Do you believe you have the intelligence and the courage to know your heart’s desire? Sure you do!
As you listen to the Christmas Story, hear the word ‘star’ but feel ‘divine purpose’ Embrace the wisdom of the three wise men and allow your ‘star’ to guide you. Inside you is a precious gift. The world is waiting for your gift. Let go of the fear of being ridiculed or even the fear of failure. Perhaps it is the possibility of success that is keeping you trapped in fear’s harmful grip. Let it go!
Emancipate yourself and begin your journey. Use the Christmas Story as your permission to give birth to your divine idea, your passion, your purpose, your contribution. Give birth to your gift and present it to your self, your family, your community and even your world.
May the Christmas Story inspire you to live a year guided by your inborn wisdom as you give birth to your divine idea. Happy Holidays!
