OAS Secretary General Travels to Haiti

WASHINGTON, DC – The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will arrive in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Monday (Jan. 17), to hold meetings with President René Préval, Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive, and Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) officials.

Insulza will first meet with the chief of the CARICOM-OAS Electoral Observation Mission, Colin Granderson, who headed the group of specialists and professionals that followed the recent Haitian presidential elections.

The head of the OAS will travel to the Caribbean country to speak with top Haitian authorities about the findings and recommendations of the final report on the elections, which was put together by an OAS Committee of Experts and delivered to Haitian authorities last Thursday.
