OAS Roundtable Discussion to Focus on Millennium Development Goals in Latin America and the Caribbean
WASHINGTON, DC – Regional experts on the issues of development, economics and health will meet at the Organization of American States (OAS) this Wednesday, September 8, to participate in a debate on a report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), titled, “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals with Equality in Latin America and the Caribbean: Progress and Challenges.”
In the framework of the XXV OAS Policy Roundtable, representatives of regional and international organizations will analyze the contents, assessments and recommendations of the document, which brings together the main findings of a review on the progress achieved in countries of Latin America and the Caribbean towards fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals.
The roundtable will feature Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary; Heraldo Muñoz, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Director of its Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Mirta Roses, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
The United States Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Arturo Valenzuela, also will join the debate on the report, which was published by ECLAC in July 2010.
