North Miami Mayor to Honor First Lady of Côte d’lvoire (Africa)

NORTH MIAMI – North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre will have the chance to meet and personally thank First Lady Simone Ehivet Gbagbo of the Republic of Côte d’lvoire (Ivory Coast) for the African nation’s response in the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating earthquake in January.

Mayor Pierre will honor the nation by presenting a key to the city of North Miami to First Lady Gbagbo on Sunday, March 21st at 10 a.m. during services at Full Gospel Tabernacle, 9701 NW 7 Avenue, located in Miami.

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Ivory Coast mobilized government officials, religious leaders, students, artists and many others with an outpour of support and solidarity for Haiti. The African nation has contributed $1 million (US) towards immediate and long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening international relations and providing support to neighboring countries in times of need. The city of North Miami has lead relief efforts amongst local governments in the United States, recently partnering with the Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) to endorse the “cash is best” policy when sending aid to disaster areas. Mayor Pierre has been invited to attend and participate in several conferences and meetings at both the national and global level regarding relief and rebuilding efforts for his native homeland.
