National Leadership Prayer Breakfast donates to Hear the Children’s Cry and Relief Efforts in Haiti

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The National Leadership Prayer Breakfast (NLPB) Committee of Jamaica and its major sponsor, Victoria Mutual handed over the free-will offering collected at the 30th Anniversary of the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast held earlier this year at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.

The NLPB Committee continued its focus on Jamaican children by supporting the work of Hear the Children’s Cry, which is headed by Betty-Ann Blaine, who was on hand to collect the donation.

In extending a hand to our Caribbean neighbours, the Prayer Breakfast Committee also donated half of the free-will offering towards relief efforts in Haiti, being coordinated by The Salvation Army. Victoria Mutual also presented a matching donation to The Salvation Army in aid of Haiti.

The annual National Leadership Prayer Breakfast Committee is designed to foster greater unity in the nation, particularly among the nation’s leaders, at all levels. The first National Leadership Prayer Breakfast was held in January 1981, following the General Election of October 1980. It arose out of the Church’s concern for peace and justice, reconciliation and unity in the nation.

Each year, the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast Committee brings together our nation’s leaders for prayer and fellowship; attendees include leaders of State, Church, and Civic Life, including community leaders. These include His Excellency, the Governor General, the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Parliamentarians, Local Government, Custodes, Judiciary, Permanent Secretaries, Security Forces, Business and Labour leaders, Church, community leaders, and the Diplomatic and Consular Corps.

Each year the NLPB Committee donates the free-will offering to a charity. For the last 25 years, Victoria Mutual has been the main sponsor of the Prayer Breakfast, which is celebrating 30 years of uniting leaders at all levels.
