Groupon’s endorsement allows the Miami based organization to create a national impact through its services.
In addition to children’s zone, live art, cultural foods, and crafts, the festival features a lineupas diverse as Miami itself with artists from Jamaica – Luciano, Puerto Rico – CulturaProfetica, Colombia – Ephniko, Haiti – Jahfe, Canada – Bonnie Casey, Miami – Spam All Stars and St. Maarten –Connis. The musicians themselves represent a collective consciousness ofcultural awareness and of giving back. The proceeds will benefit a local food bank, Curley’s House, which services the needy across Miami-Dade County, regardless of race, creed, color, religion or sexual orientation.
The mission to eradicate food insecurity could be considered a challenge with 14.6% of American households experiencing a reduction in normal food intake and disruption in their normal eating patterns because the household lacks money and other resources for food.In Florida, statistics show that over 16% of Floridians are living at or below the poverty line which adds to the daily needs that local food banks, such as Curley’s house, provide for and experience. The face of those experiencing food deprivations is not bound by color or creed but by economics.
