Name change for JAMPRO
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has been renamed Jamaica Trade and Invest, in order to concentrate greater focus on the business promotion aspect of the company’s activities in the international community.
Explaining the rationale for the name change, Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan told journalists at at post-Cabinet press briefing on Thursday, February 8 at Jamaica House, that the former name, “depicts an overall picture of Jamaica’s many faceted attractions. However, the question of dealing directly with attracting overseas investment in our various areas of opportunity is intended to receive greater focus”.
Noting the launch of the Brand Jamaica program by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller yesterday, Mr. Buchanan said the re-naming of JAMPRO “is but one aspect of that greater level of concentration on promoting Jamaica as a business investment destination, and it is toward that end that the new name has been attached to our promotional activity internationally”.
The agency, which falls under the Ministry of Development, will however, retain the JAMPRO acronym and logo.
