Miami Native Competes On National Jump Rope Team

Miami Native, Namiya Crespo Competes in World Championship of Rope Skipping

MIAMI – South Florida celebrates one of their own, Namiya Crespo 18, who is one of 15 athletes from multiple states on the United States National Jump Rope Team.

This summer she competed in Malmö, Sweden at the FISA World Rope Skipping Championships.

Namiya Crespo, a member of the“Supersonics” Jump rope team, under the direction of the national coach Dillon Bethell, graduated from Palmetto Senior High School, this past May. She will be attending Emmanuel College in Boston this fall.

Namiya competed in the female divisions of the team events as well as the individual events, known as the Masters. Namiya’s female division team earned the silver medal as the 2nd fastest individual rope speed relay team in the world. Her female team also earned 4th place in the world for double dutch speed relay.

“Going to Sweden and competing for Team USA during an Olympic Summer with my teammates was a great experience and I am proud to have brought home a medal, said Namiya.

Namiya started in the Supersonics Jump Rope club in 5th grade when she was 10. Her first competition was Junior Olympics in 2009 in Iowa. In 2016, she competed in the FISAV-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships for Team USA and placed 2nd in single rope speed relay with three other girls.

Namiya will be honing her skills as an USA Jump Rope All Star Member and looks to co-facilitate jump rope workshops around the country promoting health and wellness with kids.”
