Miami Dade College Leads Law Enforcement Training Efforts in Trinidad & Tobago
MIAMI – Miami Dade College’s School of Justice at North Campus recently stretched its long arm toward the eastern Caribbean in the delivery of a specially customized training program in “The Use of Force”.
Offered on the twin island of Trinidad & Tobago, the training program was designed to provide 39 Law Enforcement Officers, along with military personnel who are performing law enforcement duties, with effective methods and tactics to gain compliance and cooperation. Developed and delivered by MDC’s School of Justice, the training program focused on the dynamics of police engagements and successful Procedural Justice Tactics that resolve situations, minimizing the utilization of physical force.
In addition, the program offered officer attendees the opportunity for practical application via viable scenarios in which less-lethal and lethal force are necessary and how to effectively handle these situations while preserving civil rights and accountability.
“The program was indeed successful,” stated Ian Kevin Ramdhanie, Principal of The Caribbean Institute for Security and Public Safety. “There was much discussion and interaction as the participants linked Florida’s polices with that of Trinidad and Tobago’s.”
The School of Justice at MDC has been routinely approached by local, state and federal agencies and foreign governments for special training needs. It is considered a national model of excellence.
