MIA adds new domestic and international route service

MIAMI-DADE – Miami International Airport (MIA) rang in the new year with five airlines announcing new non-stop flights between MIA and eight destinations: Salt Lake City, Utah; New York City; Ottawa and Montreal, Canada; London and Manchester, England; Helsinki, Finland; and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Delta Airlines began direct service between Salt Lake City and MIA on December 18, and is the only airline at the airport currently providing service of any kind to that city. Delta will also add service to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport on February 16.

Skyservice Airlines, a charter carrier, began service for the first time ever at MIA on January 8, with flights to Ottawa and Montreal.

In November, Thomas Cook Airlines began service to London’s Gatwick Airport and Manchester, England, and Finnair began seasonal service to Helsinki. El Al Airlines plans to begin scheduled, non-stop flights to Tel Aviv, Israel on March 28.

“Carriers that want to expand their operations in South Florida are taking advantage of our available gates and our four-runway airfield,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director José Abreu, P.E. “We are extremely excited to have these new flights, and I believe these are just the first of many carriers that will be coming to MIA in 2006.”
