McDonald’s to close Jamaica restaurants

Kingston, Jamaica- There will be no more Big Macs in Jamaica. McDonald’s Corp., the world’s largest fast-food company, said Thursday, October 6, that it will suspend business and close its eight restaurants in Jamaica later this month.

The restaurants, all owned by the company, will close October 14 as part of a “business decision,” said Maria Elena Santana, a spokeswoman for the restaurant company’s Caribbean Division.

“At the moment, we cannot continue to serve Jamaicans the way they deserve and expect,” said Santana, who is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

McDonald’s, based in Oak Brook, Ill., plans to open new Jamaican restaurants in the future, though Santana declined to say when that might be.
