Magazine Names Caribbean-American Commissioner “Public Official of the Year”

BROWARD COUNTY – Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness has been named “Public Official of the Year” and one of the “50 Most Powerful Black Professionals in South Florida” by Legacy Magazine.

A committee of community leaders and business executives choose the top 50 black professionals from nominations that were submitted by their peers. Of those 50, Commissioner Holness was chosen to receive the Public Official of the Year — Special Achievement Award.

Legacy Magazine wrote that Commissioner Holness is “motivated by change” and highlighted his efforts to strengthen Broward County’s economy and create jobs.

Among his accomplishments noted in Legacy Magazine:

• Involved in talks with Caribbean Airlines to bring service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. “We’re discussing the possibility of making Fort Lauderdale a major North American hub,” Commissioner Holness said.

• Participated in trade mission to Trinidad and Tobago. “The focus is on tourism and businesses from out of town to grow the economy,” said Holness.

• Hosted a Community Partnership and Economic Growth Forum with more than 400 people in attendance. Commissioner Holness told Legacy Magazine: “I wanted people to know what business opportunities exist with the $1.2 billion airport expansion and how to register as a vendor to participate in Broward’s $3.2 billion annual budget.”

Commissioner Holness was elected to the Broward County Commission in November 2010. He represents District 9, which includes portions of the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, Sunrise, Tamarac and Plantation. His priorities include economic development, job creation, home ownership and community redevelopment.
