Last chance for greencard holders to apply for citizenship before mid-term elections

Citizenship Day on June 14th aims to assist greencard holders eligible to apply for naturalization

MIAMIThe Florida New Americans program and the local New Americans campaign are coming together with the National Partnership for New Americans for the last Citizenship Day on June 14th at Broward College South Campus.

Last summer, with the help of New Americans Campaign and the National Partnership for New Americans, we assisted over 2,000 Floridians who wanted to become New Americans. A coalition of legal service providers and volunteers will be at this event to assist eligible legal permanent residents (LPRs) become U.S. citizens.

Earlier this month, the USCIS officially implemented the revised version of the N-400 naturalization application. Now doubled in length, the process will become more tedious and burdensome for green card holders to become citizens.

This Citizenship Day is the last chance to reach New Americans in order to vote before the mid-term elections in November

“The new form can be intimidating, but we are here to help! Many legal permanent residents approach us about the naturalization process and we are having these two large free events as a last push before September,” said Krystina Francois, Program Director at the Florida New Americans program.

The last Citizenship Day arrives in time for this year’s mid-term elections. Legal permanent residents (LPRs) who become citizens in time, will have the opportunity to register to vote for the elections in November.
