Laparkan partners with Caribbean American nurses on outreach mission to Guyana

Bronx, New York Laparkan Shipping is partnering with the Caribbean American Nurses Association BMW Chapter (Bronx/Manhattan/Westchester Chapter) in its annual medical outreach program which this year will be in Guyana.

This humanitarian medical outreach mission will be in Guyana from July 6-13, 2011 during which nurses will volunteer at the main Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and at community health clinics across the country, says Hopina Samuel, the Vincentian-born president of the association. There will also be a one-day training workshop.

The association, with the assistance of Laparkan has already shipped to Guyana medical supplies including two mechanical Hoyer lifts, blood pressure machines, glucose meters, wheelchairs and nebulizers.

Laparkan’s Mt. Vernon New York warehouse was used for the collection, staging and packing of the supplies which were shipped to Guyana last week. At a simple ceremony just prior to the shipment being loaded, Samuel thanked Laparkan for its support of the mission adding that “your partnership with us on this and future humanitarian missions shows clearly Laparkan’s commitment to giving back to the communities you serve.”

“On behalf of the officers and members of Caribbean American Nurses Association- Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester Chapter (CANA-BMW), I wish to express our sincere thanks for your participation and support towards our humanitarian trip to Guyana. This partnership between Laparkan and CANA-BMW has already proved to be rewarding. With the assistance of you and your courteous and efficient staff we were able to pack and ship a total of 16 packages which included medical supplies and equipment,” Samuel said.

Mac Arjan, vice-president for the northeast US operations of Laparkan congratulated the association on its humanitarian work in the Caribbean region over the years. He said Laparkan “is pleased to be a partner with you and your work which positively impacts the lives of so many people and you have our commitment to working with you in the future.”

The Caribbean American Nurses Association Bronx/Manhattan/Westchester chapter was set up in 1994 and is comprised of nurses from Antigua, Barbados, Belize, St. Vincent, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.
