Laparkan Hails Caribbean success at 2012 Olympics

MIAMI – Laparkan Shipping, the Caribbean-owned premiere freight forwarding and logistics solutions provider in the United States, has hailed the performances of Caribbean athletes at the just completed 2012 Olympics in London.

“The achievements of the athletes from the Caribbean region and more especially the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states have produced a record of 18 medals at a single Olympics for the region and of this we must all be proud. From the dominance of the Jamaican track teams to the history making feats of Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, Grenada’s Kirani James and Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott the English-speaking Caribbean has demonstrated that despite its small population it has the capacity to rank among the best in the world,” said Laparkan chairman and chief executive officer Glen Khan.

He noted that 19 year-old Keshorn Walcott’s gold in javelin was especially important as it is the first time in 60 years that a man from the Western Hemisphere had won gold in this event.

Khan noted that the record achievements at the Olympics coincided with the 50th anniversaries of the attainment of Independence by Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago adding that “the collective Caribbean achievements give the people of these two nations and all Caribbean people, including those of us in the Diaspora good reason to celebrate and at the same time reflect on the voyage we have traveled over the past half a century.”

“The management and staff of Laparkan join me in extending congratulations to all the Caribbean athletes who participated in the recent Olympics for they have made our countries and our region proud,” Khan said.

The wider Caribbean and Latin America won a total of 71 medals at the London Olympics.
