Joint Efforts Ship Critical Relief Items to Haiti

COCONUT CREEK – On Wednesday, January 20th, much-needed emergency relief supplies from Food For The Poor’s warehouse in Coconut Creek left Port Everglades on a vessel and barge bound for Haiti due to arrive on Saturday at a port facility near Port-au-Prince. SEACOR Holdings and Resolve Marine Group arranged to send a barge to assist with repairs at the port in Port-au-Prince. Upon arrival in Haiti, Food For The Poor will distribute the MREs, medical supplies, tents and sleeping bags.

Since Monday, Jan. 18, Food For The Poor staff has been serving more than 15,000 hot meals daily from the warehouse in Port-au-Prince. Food For The Poor/ Haiti has been operating for more than 24 years. The Food For The Poor facility in Port-au-Prince is comprised of offices, a warehouse, a kitchen and food distribution program, and medical clinic. Additionally Food For The Poor teams are taking in more food, medical and building supplies into Haiti across the Dominican Republic border.

Food For The Poor, the largest international charity in the United States, has sent 100 containers of rice, canned food and medical supplies to Haiti – most of which is already being distributed in Port-au-Prince. Another 189 tons of goods were shipped over the weekend. Additional containers of food, medical and building supplies are enroute to Haiti by plane and ship. The goods are part of Food For The Poor’s initial goal to provide $5 million in relief to Haiti. Food For The Poor executives are expediting shipment of aid to accelerate relief activities.

Local residents can also bring donations of canned fish, canned meat, canned milk, canned infant formula and water to the charity’s headquarters at 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Fla., 33073. At this time, the charity cannot accept clothing.
