JNBS Celebrates Ten Years of Operation in South Florida

LAUDERHILL – The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), through its Florida Representative Office, will celebrate ten years of service to Jamaicans in Florida, at a church service, to be held at the Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church in Lauderhill, on Sunday, April 21.

Janice McIntosh, JNBS Chief Representative Officer, said the organisation has sought to meet the needs of the large concentration of Jamaicans living in Florida, through members’ meeting, seminars and forums which provide information about investment, real estate and mortgage opportunities in Jamaica.

“The interdenominational church service on April 21 will provide an opportunity for us to worship with the community and JN members; and to express our appreciation to those who maintained their links with Jamaica over the years; and contributed to Jamaica National becoming an integral part of the thriving Diaspora community in the state,” Mrs. McIntosh said.

The Tamarac location officially opened on March 21, 2003 and immediately filled a void among the Jamaicans who were able to meet the staff face to face and get their issues resolved or have it move through the appropriate channels.

The Representative Office serves the generations of Jamaicans who wish to maintain ties in their homeland via the products and services offered by Jamaica National. It has also developed a strong relationship with the community, through its sponsorship of various causes and activities, and was rewarded with a proclamation from the Broward County Commissioner, in February 2012.

“Our regular mortgage seminars, and real estate fairs, have stimulated interest in owning property in Jamaica, and have provided an extremely vital conduit for their mortgage applications to be completed in full without them having to fly to Jamaica to do so,” she explained.

Mrs. McIntosh said that through forums, such as the annual JN Outlook for the Future sessions on the Jamaican Economy, the Representative Office in Florida has assisted community members to keep abreast of important issues in Jamaica.

On Saturday, April 20, the Representative Office will be hosting a special public forum on the recently concluded Government of Jamaica National Debt Exchange (NDX). The main presenter will be Earl Jarrett, General Manager, who will speak to, “The NDX and its Impact,” at the Sheraton Suites in Plantation, Florida.

In addition, one of the highlights of the 10th anniversary celebrations in Florida will be a ten-city mortgage seminar tour across Florida during the year.
