MIAMI – The Acting Commissioner of Police in Jamaica, Mr. Owen Ellington, OD., will pay a two-day visit to the South Florida community as of next Monday (Mar. 8) where he will observe areas of law enforcement relevant in the Jamaican society.
Commissioner Ellington will be guest speaker at a Community Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, March 8, starting at 6:30 p.m., at the Lauderhill City Commission where he will interact with Jamaican nationals and friends of the Diaspora on developments in law enforcement and citizen protection in Jamaica.

Also, the Commissioner will be special guest at the graduation exercise of the Miami Police Department Training Center in North Miami. He will visit the Miami International Policing Institute where he will hold discussions with officials of the Gang Intervention Unit.
During his visit in South Florida, Commissioner Ellington will meet with the Sheriff of Broward County, Mr. Al Lamberti and the Chiefs of Police for the Cities of Miami, Lauderdale Lakes and Lauderhill, Mr. Miguel Exposito, Mr. Andrew Smalling and Mr. Ken Pachnek, respectively.
These meetings are being facilitated by the Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes, Mr. Barrington Russell, Sr., and Commissioner Dave Holness of the City Commission of Lauderhill respectively with the collaboration of Florida Association for Voluntary Action in the Caribbean and Americas, Inc., (FAVACA). These cities have substantial Caribbean communities.
Commissioner Ellington’s visit culminates with a visit to the Historical Museum of Miami, where he will view the current exhibition “Crime In Miami”. The recently unveiled six-month exhibition investigates the facts and fictions behind Miami’s unique criminal history using a series of artifacts, photographs and documents from the Museum’s collection, the Miami Dade County office and the Florida Department of Corrections.
The Commissioner’s visit is being facilitated by the office of the Consulate General of Jamaica.
