Jamaicans Will Gather For NE USA Diaspora Conference in NY

Washington, DC – The Jamaica Diaspora North-East USA two-day Regional conference will commence in New York on June 10 and run through June 11 at the JFK Hilton Hotel in Queens, New York.
The conference will bring together Jamaicans residing in New York, New Jersey, Boston, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, Delaware, Baltimore, Washington DC and Virginia. Over the two-days, the participants will discuss topics relating to Diaspora voting, trade and investment, public safety, immigration and deportation, the role of youth, healthcare and education.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Building a United Diaspora for Growth and Prosperity in Jamaica”. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith will declare the conference open while Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton will also address participants. Director of Diaspora and Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ambassador Sharon Saunders and Mr. Lincoln Downer, Assistant . Director of Consular Affairs will also address the conference.
The curtains will come down on the conference on Saturday night with the staging of the Diaspora Inaugural Talawah Awards Gala.
Heading the list of awardees is Congresswoman Yvette Clarke who will receive the award for politics. Other awardees are the Rev. Dr. Jacqueline McCullough who will receive the faith-based award, Rev. Calvin McIntire, the Lifetime Achievement award, Devon Harris, the award for Sports, Michael Seton and Roxanne Chin the Future Leaders award, while the award for Art will go to Eddie Robinson. Senator Kamina Johnson Smith will deliver the keynote address.
