Jamaican’s set to compete at International Track Meet in New York

The Reebok Grand Prix will mark the first full international meet at the new stadium and the fifth stop of the USA Track and Field Visa Championship Series in New York City on Saturday, June 11 with Jamaican’s Veronica Campbell and Usain Bolt competing.

Veronica Campbell, who won two gold and one bronze medals at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, will be competing along with Teen-age track and field sensation, Usain Bolt who has been added to the growing list of world class athletes set to compete. The 18 year-old 2002 World Junior champion and current World Junior record holder at 200 meters, is considered among the top two runners in the world over the distance.

Mark Wetmore, Meet Director and President of Global Athletics and Marketing Inc. told JIS News, “New Yorkers are among some of the greatest sports fans in the world and with the support of Reebok, we plan to provide them with some of the best track and field action in the world”.

“New York City is delighted to host the Reebok Grand Prix and welcome many of the world’s finest athletes,” noted Kenneth J. Podziba, New York City Sports Commissioner.
