Community Engagement

When it comes to community service, John gives back by serving on two non-profit Boards- Broward Caribbean Carnival (BCCI) and Black Executive Forum (BEF). BCCI produces Carnival in Broward county during the week leading up to Columbus Day Weekend Holiday and is the regions largest Caribbean cultural event that showcases the beauty and the pageantry of Carnival with its’ costumed masqueraders.

The Sunday before Columbus Day marks the pinnacle of the Carnival, but it starts off with the Junior Carnival the week before where the young ones are able to participate in their rich cultural heritage.

The Black Executive Forum manages the Batten Fellows Program. A program designed to foster the recruitment and retention of Black professionals through a series of workshops and seminars over an eight-week period. The program is similar to other leadership programs for professionals; however, the Batten Fellows Program is fine-tuned towards the nurturing and development of Black Executives in South Florida. BEF is proud to have 200 alumni of which over 90% still reside in South Florida. John currently serves as Chairman of the Board and President.
