Jamaican Diaspora Investors to engage local MSMEs at Jamaica Diaspora Conference

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) will be targeting investors and buyers/distributors from the Diaspora to create business opportunities for Jamaican MSMEs at the Jamaica Diaspora Conference. The event will be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from June 13-18, 2015.

The agency is connecting companies from a variety of sectors, including Creative Industries, Agriculture, Tourism, Manufacturing and Energy, with interested investors and persons looking to procure products for their market. JAMPRO will also be marketing small to medium sized projects for investment and managing the Diaspora Conference Marketplace, where over 70 products and service providers will be on display.

With over 200 business to business (B2B) meetings facilitated at the 2013 conference, Robert Scott, Vice President of JAMPRO and Chairman of the Diaspora Conference Marketing Sub Committee emphasised the need to connect the Diaspora to Jamaican companies.  He said, “JAMPRO has facilitated many investments from the Diaspora community and we have seen the results from these matchmaking sessions held at the Conference. It is essential that the Diaspora Conference supports the government’s strategy to develop the economy, JAMPRO’s role will be to focus on achieving that by arranging business meetings and marketing Jamaican products.”

Diane Edwards, President of JAMPRO says that it is critical for Jamaica to welcome Diaspora investors, as the Diaspora community provides a great source of income and support for the country’s economy, “The international Jamaican community has a special interest in what happens in their country. This special interest is why we want them to come to the Conference, meet our companies, and do business with them. JAMPRO will do all in its power to facilitate this connection and we will continue to be a bridge for local and international Jamaicans to meet and create lucrative business opportunities,” she said.

The Jamaica Diaspora Conference promises to be one of this year’s premium business events. JAMPRO is anticipating great success from the confab, and looks forward to collaborating with partners at the Conference.  For further information on the B2B Matchmaking Meetings or to access detailed profiles of the “Ready to Go” investment projects at the Jamaica Diaspora Conference, email [email protected].
