Jamaica to host the inaugural Caribbean Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – Jamaica will roll out the red carpet to host the inaugural Caribbean Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange (CMITE) from October 7 – 10, 2010 at The Palmyra, A Solis Hotel and Resort in Rose Hall.

The invitation-only, appointment-based event, organized by Questex Media Group LLC in collaboration with the Society of Incentive Travel Executives (Site), will serve as a platform for 50 Caribbean suppliers to interact with 50 top meeting and incentive buyers from North America.

“Jamaica is honored to host the inaugural Caribbean Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange, which will attract A-list buyers and suppliers,” said Marcia Bullock-Jobson, the Jamaica Tourist Board’s Regional Director, Groups & Conventions. “This is a tremendous opportunity to not only highlight Jamaica’s capacity to accommodate groups of all sizes, especially as we anticipate the opening of the new Montego Bay Convention Centre, but it also serves to favorably position the entire Caribbean as a meetings and incentives mecca.”

“A natural extension of the sister event, Incentive Travel Exchange, the event fills the need for a forum that produces significant MICE business for the Caribbean,” commented Alicia Evanko, Vice President, Tradeshows and Events, Questex Media Group. “We are grateful for the backing of the Jamaica Tourist Board in the launch of Caribbean Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange, and are excited they have partnered with us to make this a key event for the North American MICE market.”

The format of CMITE will allow buyers to schedule daily one-to-one appointments with suppliers, as well as participate in optional site visits of Jamaica’s hotel and resort facilities. Suppliers comprise hotels, resorts, spas, destinations, tour operators, destination management companies and cruise lines from throughout the Caribbean.

The inaugural CMITE is already sold out. The participating buyers were selected by a rigorous qualification process, which required applicants to complete a survey, participate in an interview, and furnish references. Additionally, CMITE organizers restricted the number of suppliers from each region in order to provide a healthy mix of suppliers from across the Caribbean, while keeping a one-to-one buyer/supplier ratio.

The inaugural staging of CMITE is also noteworthy as it will be the first event held at The Palmyra, A Solis Hotel and Resort’s recently opened Silver Tower. CMITE has reserved five floors of the tower to accommodate the participants and host the one-on-one meetings in its luxurious suites.
