Jamaica’ s Blood Drive gets Corporate Help

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s blood drive efforts get a major boost with a new blood plasma freezer has been donated with corporate support to Jamaica’s National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) to help the country enhance its drive to collect 35,000 units this year.

The plasma freezer will allow blood-derived products such as plasma and platelets that are used to treat bleeding disorders, to be stored for up to a year, thus enhancing the effectiveness of the blood collection efforts.

In keeping with the new thrust by the Ministry of Health to foster greater collaboration with the private sector, Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) was one of the corporate sponsors supporting the Kiwanis Club of Kingston, in providing the freezer unit to the NBTS.  On Friday, September 18, the Club presented a Certificate of Appreciation to JNBS for helping to increase Jamaica’ s Blood Drive donations.
