Jamaica Investment Symposium to be held in South Florida

MIAMI – In an effort to create awareness and explore the various business opportunities in Jamaica, the Jamaica Consulate General in Miami will be hosting a one-day investment symposium on Saturday, December 1, 9am at the Sheraton Hotel, Griffin Road in Davie.

The objective of this event, according to the Consul General Ricardo Allicock is to raise awareness in Florida of the range of investment opportunities in Jamaica, at this time.

Almost 100 potential business interests are expected to participate in the symposium will bring together key business persons from Jamaica with potential investors here in Florida “and will seek to foster even greater synergies relating to investment between Jamaica and this region beyond that which already exists,” the Consul General added.

President of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Marie Gill said that the one-day investment forum would focus on helping to shape the economy of Jamaica. Entrepreneurs, community leaders and all interested persons within the Diaspora will have an opportunity to seek and identify possibilities from the panelists designed to provide access and key information through those discussions, she continued.

A series of panel discussions will focus on varying topics such as Business Opportunities in Jamaica, Governmental Assistance and Regulatory Parameters, and Options in Financial Securities and Real Estate.

The panelists will include Mr. Aubyn Hill, CEO of Corporate Strategies Limited, Mr. George Roper of Financial Securities Commission, Ms. Antoinette McKain, Jamaica Depositors Insurance Corporation, Robert Gregory of Jamaica Trade and Invest, Jason Abrahams, Deutsche Bank, Omar Azan, President of Jamaica Manufacturers Association, Mr. Andrew Cocking of Capital & Credit Financial Group, Ms. Anya Schnoor, of Deering, Bunting & Golding, Mr. Gary Peart of Mayberry Investment and Edwin Wint of Jamaica Realtors Association.

In a recent meeting with Florida Governor, Charlie Crist and the Director of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development, Dr. Dale Brill, and the CARICOM Consular Corp in Florida, it was proposed that a series of trade missions would soon be established with several states in the Caribbean region, including Jamaica to strengthen trade relations between the USA and CARICOM.
