Jamaica Investment Forum Will Showcase Country
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Prime Minister, the Most. Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, said that the ‘Jamaica Investment Forum 2012,’ is being held at an opportune time for the country, as the government seeks to capitalise on new opportunities for growth and development.
She was speaking at a cocktail reception held on Wednesday Feb. 29 at the Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay, for potential local and international investors attending the forum, which is being held from March 1 to 2.
Mrs. Simpson Miller noted that the two-day event, now underway at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, will showcase a country that is “focused on our tremendous business and investment opportunities.”
She stated that in addition to being one of the most recognisable brands in the world, Jamaica is the acknowledged hub for business and trade within the Caribbean, and is a popular centre for some of the world’s major corporations.
“And for us, investment, both local and foreign, occupies a central place in our economic development strategy,” the Prime Minister stated, noting that the government has set its sights firmly on expanding its outreach to investors.
Meanwhile, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, said that over the two days of the forum, all effort will be made to show attendees that Jamaica is more than a beach.
