SUNRISE – The members of the Jamaica Ex-Police Association (JEPA) South Florida Inc., will join in reunion this Saturday (April 17) as they celebrate their annual community gala, to be held at the Grand Ballroom in Sunrise, Florida.
An outstanding student attending a tertiary institution in South Florida will be the recipient of JEPA’s annual scholarship programme. The scholarship is awarded to a college freshman in South Florida and is awarded based on scholastic aptitude and financial need.
Honorees
Also, three Jamaican nationals will be honored at the event for the contributions to the growth, development, wellbeing and advancement of the Caribbean Diaspora in South Florida.
Acknowledging the huge and positive impact of the honorees, public relations officer of the organization, Malachi Smith, said “JEPA continues to recognize those persons and companies who have made a difference in our community over the years.”
The association has so far awarded eight (8) scholarships to students entering tertiary institutions in South Florida.
Meanwhile, a high school student in Jamaica will also be awarded a similar scholarship during the visit to Jamaica by members of the JEPA next month where they will continue the annual refurbishing programme, this year at the Alligator Pond Police Station in St. Elizabeth.
So far, seven stations across the island have been renovated by JEPA members during their annual visit. This year, the volunteers will team with Dr. Sharon Jefferson of the Dental Place in Fort Lauderdale where they will host a dental fair to residents in the surrounding communities, at the Alligator Pond Health Clinic. The fair will be free to the public.
The South Florida chapter of the Jamaica Ex-Police Association comprises a team of more than 50 members who have for the last ten years have provided assistance for the welfare of former officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, as well as assisting in projects benefitting the local communities in the Diaspora and in Jamaica through active public service.
