It’s Guyana vs. Jamaica in the 3rd Annual Mayor Kaplan’s International Cricket Cup 2005

The stage is set again, and the final two teams Guyana and Jamaica (third time defending champions) are ready to duke it out at the City of Lauderhill Sports Complex, for what is to be one of the more anticipated games of the year.

The Finalist, Team Guyana and Team Jamaica will be vying for the coveted 3rd Annual Mayor Kaplan’s International Cricket Cup Trophy 2005, declaring the winners of one of South Florida’s most popular cricket event’s, “Night Cricket”! The shorter, more action packed and high energy version of cricket.

The City of Lauderhill has been the center of attention for “Night Cricket” since the league began in February 2005. The ten participating teams were: Leeward Islands, Pakistan, Jamaica, India, Barbados, Guyana, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago, Windward Islands and our very own Lauderhill team. Each team had an opportunity to play 4 games, and the top 4 teams then moved on to the Semi-Finals, which was played on Saturday, May 14th, where Guyana won over Leeward Islands and Jamaica won over Trinidad & Tobago.

The 20 Overs Finals will be played on Saturday, May 21, at the Lauderhill Sports Complex, beginning at 7:00pm. Lauderhill’s Mayor and Commissioners, along with Caribbean Consul Generals and other dignitaries will be in attendance. Trophies will be given out to all participating teams, individual trophies to players, and to the winners of this year’s tournament.

Presentations will also be given out to kids (ages 8-16) who participated and completed the “KWIK Cricket Program,” a joint venture between the City and Broward Community College to teach kids the basics of playing cricket.

The event is free and open to the public. Avid cricket fans, spectators and those wanting to learn more about the game of cricket can spend a relaxing evening in with the entire family. There will be lots of food, steel-pan music by Lauderhill Steel Ensemble, a live DJ, and your play-by-play explanation of the game being played.
