PEMBROKE PINES – Graduates of The Convent of Mercy Academy “ALPHA” in Kingston, Jamaica will converge on Pembroke Pines, Florida July 27-29, 2007 for a reunion of epic proportion.
A weekend of activities is planned to reunite Alpha “old girls” from all over the world for the first of its kind weekend-long reunion in the United States. A Welcome Reception, picnic, a ‘70s dance and a Sunday Mass and Brunch are planned for the alumni, their families and friends to come together and celebrate their sisterhood and history as part of one of the oldest all-girls high schools in Jamaica.
“I am grateful to have been a part of the legacy that is Alpha and the astounding influence that it has had on my life.” says Adrienne “Addy” Chin-Ogilgvie, class of 1977, chair of the organizing committee. The events are opened to everyone, but offer an opportunity for “old girls” who have not seen each other for 25 to 35 years to come together and reconnect and re-enforce their commitment to their alma mater. An emphasis is being placed to locate and reunite girls who graduated 1970-1979.
All proceeds of the weekend’s activities will be donated to the school to further the education of today’s generation of young women.
Alpha Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school was founded in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy in Kingston, Jamaica. Over the decades the school has educated thousands of young women in knowledge and life.
Graduates of Alpha Academy have gone on to make significant contributions to Jamaica and the world.
