Government of Guyana Celebrates 43rd Republic Anniversary in South Florida
MIAMI – The Guyanese American community in South Florida will celebrate Guyana’s 43rd Republic anniversary. They will host a ‘Guyana Nite’ with cultural performances, dinner, and dancing. This event will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2013. It will be held at the Guyanese-owned Hibiscus Lounge, located at 6289 West Sunrise Blvd., Sunrise, Florida.
This event, hosted by the Guyanese Community of Florida, in conjunction with the Guyana Honorary Consulate in Miami is the first of its kind to be held in South Florida to celebrate the anniversary of Guyana’s becoming a Republic. Proceeds from the event will go towards assisting deserving charities in Guyana.
The event will feature comedian Ken Corsbie. Entertainer and musician Harold Caribbean will also perform. Folklorist Qyneares will be there too. Indian cultural dancers and singers from the Krishna Mandir of Hollywood will join. The Florida Hindu Parishad/Shree Saraswattie Davie Mandir will participate as well. Romeo & The Tassa Boyz drummers will perform. The Champa Chameli Dance Group will also take the stage.

The Government of Guyana will be represented at the event by Public Service Minister Dr. Jennifer Westford while Opposition Leader Brig.(ret) David Granger has indicated that he will send a representative. A number of local elected officials including Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll and members of the Caribbean Consular Corps have also been invited as special guests.
Members of the Planning Committee for the event are Wesley Kirton, Larry London, Dr. Shivnarie Dookhie, Mr. Leslie Lachmansingh, and Mr. Parmy Bhagwandin.
Tickets for the event are $20.00 each and patrons will have the opportunity to partake of some of Guyana’s finest beverages and diverse cuisine. They will also have an opportunity to win roundtrip tickets to Guyana on Surinam Airways and Caribbean Airlines.
