Free Help For Haitian Nationals Seeking TPS Status In U.S.

North Miami – Due to the success of the City of North Miami’s previous Temporary Protected Status Application Drive held on January 30th, North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and The Haitian Lawyers Association, Inc. will host a second drive for qualifying Haitian Nationals.

Over two hundred applications were processed at the first drive and more participants are expected to follow this weekend. The TPS Application Drive will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Griffing Adult Center, 12220 Griffing Boulevard, in North Miami.

Haitian Lawyers Association members and volunteers will be available to help eligible Haitian Nationals seeking TPS to complete the required applications.

To be granted TPS, the following requirements must be met:

– Be a national of Haiti

– Arrived into the United States on or before January 12, 2010

– Have continuously resided in the U.S. since arrival

– Have not been convicted of any felony or two or more misdemeanors in the United States

To receive on-site assistance, individuals must bring the required documents, including:

– Birth Certificate, Passport, or Baptismal Certificate

– Two Color Passport Style Photos

– Social Security card (if any)

– Driver License (if any)

– I-94 (if any)

– Work permit (if any, even if expired)

– If you have ever been arrested anywhere in the United States, please bring certified arrest records

– Bring as many as you can of Continuous Physical Presence that you have been living in the US since January 12, 2010, examples:

– Lease or rental agreement

– Bank statements

– Telephone, cable or electrical bills

– Medical receipts

– Taxes

– Employment records, reflecting dates of employment

– Affidavit from employer (must be notarized)

– Affidavit from your Church stating the dates of membership

– For children: school records, medical records
