Foundation For Democratic Advancement Has Upcoming Projects In Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos Islands – The Foundation for Democratic Advancement (FDA), a Canadian national non-profit company, is pleased to announce that it is organizing and administering a Turks and Caicos Islands project which explores democratic deficiencies in the Islands and researches voting populations in the Turks and Caicos.

The purpose of the project is to advance democracy in the Turks and Caicos Islands by empowering the local people, and holding installed UK political representatives more accountable.

The FDA is committed to reach under-informed and disenfranchised groups who might otherwise not have a democratic avenue in which to participate in the direction and future of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

A project priority will be to survey the legal voting base. All groups in the Turks and Caicos Islands have a say in the future of the Islands. Failure to include demoralized or marginalized people of the TCI in the democratic process would weaken the credibility of election results.

The FDA, through its agents and volunteers in Turks and Caicos Islands, will organise citizen panels, comprised of a cross-section of TCI people. This task will be managed by Alvin Hegner, a Belonger and businessman who is working to restore democracy in the TCI. He will gather a group of panels on each island to create a cross-section of target people in terms of age, gender, general occupation, and ethnicity.

The panels will confer with local residents at announced meeting places to be scheduled and managed by Alvin Hegner. The panels will conduct door-to-door surveys (in addition to public forums) to access marginalized or under-informed groups. Along with the door-to-door surveys, the panel members will disburse pamphlets and other information as described in the project.

The primary purpose of the panels is to determine through public input the basic priorities of the Turks and Caicos Islands in terms of government expenditure and policy.

The FDA is currently fundraising to facilitate this project. If you would like to help or
