Florida native tops Pan Caribbean All Jamaica Junior Tennis Titles

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Favorites Brandon Burke and Simone Vranov Brown walked away with the respective Boys and Girls Singles titles as the curtains came down on the Pan Caribbean All Jamaica Junior Tennis Championship on Sunday at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre in Jamaica.

The number one seed Burke, took the boys 18 title following a 6-2, 7-6 win over number two seed Macoy Malcolm.

Joseph Ross was crowned boys under 16 champion following his win over Rowland Phillips. Phillips would however get some silverware as he won the Boys under 14 title. Andre Bicknell copped the 12 and under category while Roger Lyn got by Niels van Dam for the boys 10 crown.

On the girls’ side, from Orlando, Florida Simone Vranov-Brown justified her number one seeding following an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over number two seed Shantal Blackwood for the under 18 title.

Simone’s sister Lauren was not as fortunate in the girls 16 championship match, as she was beaten by Siquena Sinclair.

The girls 14 title went to Sheleta Haugton while the under 12 crown was taken by Shadae Findlay. Shae- Ann Kameka secured the girls 10 title.

In Doubles action, Macoy Malcolm teamed with Davian Burrell to beat Joseph Ross and Sheldon McIntosh 6-1, 6-2 in the Boys 18 final.

The boys 14 doubles title went to Nicholas Chung and Ryan Simms while the 12 and under crown was secured by Dominic Shoucair and Dylan Levy.

The lone girls’ doubles encounter saw Shantal Blackwood and Michael-Ann Denton winning the 14 and under final.

At Sunday’s awards presentation, special sportsmanship awards were also handed out with Daniel Harris gaining recognition for playing in two categories as well as the doubles competition with a broken arm.

The girls’ side saw Sheleta Haughton copping the sportsmanship award for showing good spirit on and off the court.

The most outstanding boy’s award went to Brandon Burke for winning all three matches in the tournament dropping only 10 games in his title success.

Simone Vranov-Brown took home the most outstanding girl award after losing only 7 games in her three matches on her way to the 18 crown.
