First purpose built, indoor Netball court is venue for USA National Championships

ORANGE, NJ — The USA National Netball Championships will be played on the first purpose built, indoor netball court at Orange High School, 400 Lincoln Avenue, New Jersey on December 2nd and 3rd 2006.

The USA National Netball Championships are held annually to determine the best club in the country and the strongest area association.

In addition, they are used as a venue to scout talent for both the Senior and Youth USA Netball squads. This is the first time the championships have been played in New Jersey.

Clubs and Area Associations from across the USA are expected to take part – including those from the states of New Jersey, New York, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington DC, Massachusetts, Connecticut and California.

The USA National Netball Championships will open on Saturday 2nd December with a parade and presentation of teams at 9am.

This will be followed by the National Clubs Championships from 9.30am to 6pm. The National Area Association Championships will be played on Sunday 3rd December from 9.30am to 3pm.

All awards will be presented at the award ceremony following the final game at Orange High School, New Jersey on Sunday 3rd December. Awards will be presented for the following:

a) Winners of each respective competition (National Clubs, Area Associations and Open Competition)

b) Gold and Silver medals will be awarded to the Winners and Losing Finalists

c) The Winner of the Under 21 Shooting Competition will receive the Lystra Lewis trophy

d) The most sporting team will receive the Bev Christiansen Award.

Netball is an exciting, fast, skillful sport played at youth and senior level. While being historically a Women’s sport, Netball is rapidly gaining traction with active Men’s and Mixed leagues. Everyone benefits from the team-spirit and multi-cultural unity that Netball fosters. For those that have played Basketball, this is an ideal alternate sport.

“After many years of hosting the National Championships in Florida, it is fantastic to be able to host this event at the first purpose built indoor facility in New Jersey” said Edina Bayne, President USANA Inc “I hope that many more schools follow Orange High School’s pioneering lead and offer Netball – either as part of the school curriculum or as an extra-curricula activity – to America’s youth.”
