ATLANTA – This fresh perspective in leadership is an example of my What What What Approach – what you do with what you have determines what you become®
Paula Kerr-Jarrett is an attorney-at-law who is part of an emerging trend of an increase in female leadership in Jamaica along with others, for example: Portia Simpson, Dr. Patrece Charles-Freeman and Lisa Hannah. Being proud of my Jamaican heritage it was only fitting to catch up with Paula Kerr-Jarrett who is representing East Hanover for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) because my relatives hale from that region.
Paula Kerr-Jarrett shares some insights:
What message would you like to send to Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica?
“Jamaica is an island full of natural resources, talented people and has the capacity to offer so much more than it currently does. By working as a team, by putting personal agendas side, by desiring the best for our fellow man, we can achieve both personal and national goals. We are a unique nation, we are blessed with ingenuity and together we can make it happen. I bring a message of unity, hope and determination.”
What motivated you to run for Member of Parliament?
“I was motivated to run for office by my innate passion for people and by my desire to make a greater contribution toward nation building. The bible verse that says that “evil prevails when good men do nothing”, played an integral part in my decision making process and I am more motivated than ever to make a positive impact, especially on the Jamaican society. She added,” firmly believe that things must change for the better and I want to be among those who help to create this change. My campaign theme “More about People” rings true in my life as I have dedicated most of my life to helping others to self-actualize. My tenure in office will be characterised by the implementation of holistic programmes geared towards the improvement of the lives of the constituents of Eastern Hanover. I intend to remain true to the convictions that I now have; our people are our greatest assets and everything that should be done should be in their best interest. I intend to start good and end excellently. I can do what’s best for the people and the future of Eastern Hanover and for our country Jamaica.”
Share your views about community service?
Service to humanity is the most fulfilling work one can engage in. Throughout my years of involvement in volunteerism, I have come to learn that the opportunity to serve is endless. Obviously there are many people who need help but there are also many in the communities who want to help. Even though community service may not be a glamorous job, it gives a great feeling of accomplishment.
By volunteering in your communities people become a part of a greater picture that spells success for our nation. We are all a piece in a great puzzle called life. By giving our time, resources and experiences we can only help to fulfill the dreams of our nation as a rising tide lift all boats. She also added, “I encourage my constituents to support any endeavor towards the development of our nation”.
Paula Kerr-Jarrett’s mantra, “More about the People” seems to reflect her true beliefs.
Jamaica’s financial success in 2012 and beyond will be influenced by meaningful relationships with people in our beautiful homeland and also with millions of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica who reside abroad.
My Financial Tip: Make financial investments for the long run. A solid foundation is a marathon, not a sprint
