Diaspora Vibe Gallery presents “That’s What’s Poppin’!- Contemporary Pop & Sequential Art” exhibition

Diaspora Vibe Gallery presents “That’s What’s Poppin’!- Contemporary Pop & Sequential Art” exhibition on Thursday, August 11, 6pm – 10pm. Pop Art highlights everyday life and popular culture, continuously pushing for a bridge between “high arts” and “low arts”.

This exhibition highlights artists exploring the intermingling of pop and urban culture and their impact on sequential art. Five contemporary Miami based artists are presented including comic book veteran, Grey; sequential artists, R. Jackson and Caiphus Moore; photographer, Noelle Theard; and emerging fine artist Memo.

Guest curator Rodney Jackson has been heavily influenced by the Pop Art movement and Japanese Animation or Anime. “Miami is the bridge between many cultures,” states Jackson. That bridge that also exists within many large cities, he believes has also shaped into the interaction between Pop culture and Hip-Hop culture.

Rosie Gordon-Wallace, owner and senior curator of the Diaspora Vibe Gallery understands the gravity of the images she will be presenting in the gallery but is convinced the work needs to be seen. “Many artists rely on benefactors, who often come from a variety of social and professional backgrounds, to lend support to them and their work. This is not common for Caribbean artists,” Gordon-Wallace voices. “These artists present some of the most dynamic and challenging artwork currently being made anywhere, despite being under representation at international art venues”.

On Saturday August 13 from 2pm – 4pm their will be a Gallery talk with Rodney Jackson, curator which includes a meet and greet of the artists and a comprehensive slide presentation. Diaspora Vibe Gallery is located at 3938 North Miami Avenue, 2nd level, in Miami’s Design District.

That’s What’s Poppin’- Contemporary Pop & Sequential Art exhibition runs through September 23.
