David I. Muir to Launch “Pieces of Jamaica” Fine Arts Exhibition at Lauderhill Art Center Gallery

LAUDERHILL – The true beauty and rich culture of Jamaica will be on display at the Lauderhill Art Center Gallery (LACG) through visual and performing arts at the “Pieces of Jamaica” Fine Arts Exhibition slated to run throughout the month of March.

The event will showcase Jamaica as seen through the lens of photographer David I. Muir. Two guest artists, Shurnett Haughton-Cole and Niki Lopez, will also be mounting their pieces. The exhibition will feature eight events – each with a different theme – with the Grand Opening set for March 10 and the Professionals Night Out for March 17.

“Pieces of Jamaica” is being presented under the patronage of the Hon. Sandra Grant-Griffiths, Consul General of Jamaica to the Southern United States, who will attend the Grand Opening. Broward County Commissioner, Dale V.C. Holness and Jamaica Diaspora Representative, Marlon Hill Esq. will also be a part of the event.

According to Muir, “I’m excited that this is an excellent way to highlight Jamaica’s beauty and culture, my photography, and the works of Shurnett and Niki, while promoting the LACG. It will be a great opportunity for people to come out and see different aspects of Jamaica and experience the culture that will be on display throughout the exhibition.”

The exhibition will move beyond the visual and showcase various cultural aspects of the island in dance, music, poetry, culinary and other expressions, as it explores the complexity of Jamaica’s culture and people.

This family-friendly event will also have something especially for the youth on March 12, with Family, Fun and Frolic. Bring the kids to learn Jamaican ring games, play ‘dandy-shandy,’ hear Anancy stories and participate in other fun activities.

To add culture to the Professional Night Out networking event, there will be poetic expression along with the visual art which will add dimension to the business mixer.

There will also be a screening of the award-winning docu-film “Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast?” which will be hosted by the Jamaica Arts Development Foundation (JADF) on March 19. The final event of this exhibition is on March 31. Come see Jamaican art and culture at its finest in the Pieces of Jamaica fine arts exhibition and collect your piece of Jamaica.
