Corporate Diaspora lauded for steadfast support of Jamaica Independence Ball, NY!

NEW YORK – When the Jamaica Independence Celebration Committee (JICFI),began its planning of Jamaica’s 51st Anniversary of Independence Ball, it did so knowing that corporate Diaspora would be behind them full hilt. You see, over the years these companies have demonstrated without hesitation their commitment to the community and the homeland.

They have ensured (through sponsorships and donations to various events and causes) that the nation’s culture is richly maintained and strengthened wherever her citizens reside across the globe. In that, the US, is no exception.

The annual ball is the jewel of all events here in the northeast—a gala of impressive aura and prestige; a glimpse of the rich history, people, cuisine, music, intellectual prowess and profile of this beautiful isle.

“We are proud to share this moment with Jamaicans from all walks of life,” said Paulette Willoughby, JICFI Chair. “And this is all made possible because of the generous support of many of our corporate citizens. It is with deep gratitude that I say on behalf of the community, thank you to: Quality Auto Mall, Ford Motor Credit, Ford Motor Company, Caribbean Food Delights (Royal Caribbean Bakery), Fly Jamaica, Grace Foods USA, Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill, Gleaner Company USA, Tower Isle’s Frozen Foods, Carib News, Jet Blue, VP Records and Phoenix Beverages, for helping to make it all possible.”

She went on to add: “It was a fantastic evening and I was especially honored to read President Barack Obama’s message on the evening of our Independence Celebration. Brand Jamaica occupied pride of place, The event was well attended by our elected officials; we have been receiving great, positive feedback from our patrons, saying they had a ‘ball,’ so all in all it was a great year— a fitting outcome for the theme: Celebrating Jamaica, triumphant, proud and Free.”
With Jamaica on show, a wide cross section of Diaspora folks ensure that this event is a ‘must do,’ on their annual calendar.

Woven into the celebration is the standard of recognizing the accomplishments of Jamaicans in the Diaspora and assistance to charities.
Proceeds from this year’s event will provide full scholarships for needy students to attend the University of the West Indies, through the scholarship program of (AFUWI), the American Foundation of the University of the West Indies and support an early childhood basic school.
