Consul General Allicock’s speech inspires graduates

MIAMI – Jamaica’s Consul General, Ricardo Allicock commended graduates of the Health Opportunity Technical Center, as they equipped themselves to begin a new challenge.

Speaking to 82 graduates at the fifth graduation exercise held recently at the Signature Grand, in Davie, Mr. Allicock mentioned the efforts of the nursing pioneer, Mary Seacole as an example that they could transform lives using their profession to its fullest potential in making significant contributions.

The graduates, predominantly of Caribbean descent, were also reminded by the Consul General that while the process of education was continuous, this opportunity was an effort to build bridges and better relations with other cultures.

In congratulating the Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller in her new appointment as Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Mr. Allicock spoke of the other recently appointed women leaders throughout the world, encouraging his audience of success stories that could be achieved against all odds and through significant contributions.

Health Opportunity Technical Center was founded in June 2001. Graduates have completed programs as allied health professionals and practical nursing assistants. Assistance is provided with finding employment for the graduates, according to Dean and nursing administrator at the Institute, Ms. Willa-Dean Lewis.
