Construction of St. Kitts Mandarin Oriental Hotel to start in June 2009

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Construction of the US$200 million five–star world-renowned Mandarin Oriental Hotel on St. Kitts’ Southeast Peninsula is to begin in June next year.

Christophe Harbour Chief Executive Officer and award-winning South Carolina developer, Charles Pinckney (Buddy) Darby said the design of the resort which will fly the Mandarin Oriental flag is at an advanced stage.

“We hope to start initial work on that in June and it will be located at Major’s Bay. We are very excited about that, as is the Mandarin Resort and it is going to be a very special property that will have an array of views and rooms located on the mountainside to over the water bungalows,” said Darby at the ground breaking ceremony for the 250-acre course, which is part of the US$2 billion on home construction Christophe Harbour Development, which includes two-five-star hotels, a mega-yacht marina, boutiques, shops, luxurious villas, ocean front homes and private homesites around six pristine beaches on 2,500 acres of land.

Chief Operating Officer, Mr. LeGrand Elebash told the Communications Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office (CUOPM) that the Mandarin Hotel will consist of 125 core hotel rooms and amenities with an additional 100 villas which could be placed in the room pool.

Just last week the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced plans for a $285 million mixed-use luxury hotel and condo tower in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta-based Tivoli Properties Inc. plans to build the ultra-luxury high-rise hotel and residences. The hotel will have 198 rooms and 71 condominiums priced between US$1.8 million and US$15 million.

The Mandarin Oriental Group has 22 hotels worldwide in most major business and financial centers. The company also has about 20 projects in the development pipeline, including hotels in Macau, Taipei, Beijing, Chicago, Las Vegas, St. Kitts, Paris and Barcelona. (CUOPM)
