KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, called for a suspension of the conscience voting on the death penalty until next Tuesday (Nov 25) when Parliament resumes.
He was closing the debate on the death penalty. Mr. Golding proposed that when the House resumes on Tuesday (Nov 25), the matter would be put to members for a vote as its first item of business.
He said the suspension of voting would allow time for members to give careful consideration to their position on this critical issue and that no harm would be done if the weekend is allowed for members to think through and to allow their conscience to be shaped and carefully formed.

The Prime Minister moved that the matter be suspended until next Tuesday. The motion was supported by the House.
