Congressman-Elect Frost Statement on Biden Administration’s New Border Enforcement Policies

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman-Elect Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) released a statement following the White House’s announcement of new border enforcement policies featuring an extension of the harmful Title 42 policy and a new transit ban that would impact families forced to make the difficult journey to the southern border.

In a statement, Congressman-Elect Frost says:

“If there’s one thing we all know, it’s that our immigration system is inherently unfair and broken. I appreciate the Biden Administration’s commitment to solving our nation’s immigration problems and creating pathways to citizenship. This shows that administrations can take executive action to push our immigration system in a positive direction. That being said, this announcement also comes with policy changes that will have negative impacts on immigrants and continue the status quo.

“I am deeply disappointed and concerned by the decision to expand the use of Title 42, a harmful policy that fails to treat the most vulnerable among us humanely. As well as the decision to institute a so-called transit ban that would place an undue additional burden on migrants already making a treacherous journey in search of freedom and seeking asylum. This same type of policy was used under President Trump to restrict asylum access.

“I look forward to working with the Administration in determining how we can ensure equity within the parole program itself. The situation in countries like Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua is so dire that their lack of infrastructure basically guarantees that not everyone will have a fair shot at taking advantage of these programs.

“Florida’s diverse communities deserve a compassionate and comprehensive solution to these difficult problems. Central Florida is proud to be home to a large Hispanic and Haitian community, and I urge the Administration to come back to the table and work with both Congressional and local leaders to find a better, long-term fix.”
