Community Joins to Help the Hungry in Allapattah

Feeding South Florida, Miami Dolphins and Bank of America volunteers join to serve the food insecure as part of Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month

MIAMI – On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, Feeding South Florida (FSF), members of the Miami Dolphins and Bank of America volunteers will roll up their sleeves to Help the Hungry and feed as many families as possible through a united food distribution event in Allapattah. The event will serve the surrounding communities with populations of food insecure families during Hunger Action Month.

The food distribution will provide families with a farmer’s market style setting to select fresh and healthy choices. In addition, Feeding South Florida’s mobile freezer truck will be present. Made possible by Bank of America’s $200,000 Neighborhood Builder grant, the truck will allow FSF to transport nearly 3 million pounds of perishables and healthy food options annually to the hungry.

In addition, the Help the Hungry event will coincide with the national Give A Meal campaign, where Bank of America will join in the fight to help relieve hunger for millions of Americans. South Florida residents now have a chance to help end hunger in their community or around the nation. For every $1 donated the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $2 more. Through this matching program, donations to Feeding South Florida will have the chance to be tripled up to $75,000, and Feeding America has the opportunity for its donations to be tripled up to $1.5 million.
