City of Miami Gardens Seeks Nominations for First Annual Service Awards

The Miami Gardens Jaycees seeks nominations for its first annual “Distinguished Service Awards” to outstanding residents and civic groups in the city. The awards will be presented as part of the celebration of the second anniversary of the city’s incorporation.

The event will take place at 6pm June 17 in the St. Thomas University Convocation Center in Miami Gardens.

The Jaycees Nomination Committee is accepting nominations in the following categories:

” Teacher of the Year (K-12)
” Student of the Year (sixth to eight grade and ninth to 12th grade)
” Parent of the Year
” Optimist Coach of the Year
” The Rev. Arthur Jackson Jr. Memorial Award (outstanding example of service through faith)
” The Marsha Hillman Harris Memorial Award (outstanding community servant)
” The Major Aaron Campbell public Safety Award (outstanding police officer)
” Small Business of the Year
” Pioneer (outstanding civic group)

“We created the Distinguished Service Awards because there are so many people who devote themselves to improving the life we enjoy in our city,” Andre L. Williams, president of the Miami Gardens Jaycees, said in a statement announcing the awards program. “They deserve to be recognized and thanked for their efforts; we also want to honor them to encourage others to become actively involved in the community.”
