Miami-Dade Chamber Annual Symposium and Business Leaders Luncheon Mentoring Bridging the Generational Gap

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce (M-DCC) Annual Symposium and Business Leaders Luncheon will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency 400 SE 2nd Ave. Miami, Florida, 33131. Registration for the symposium will take place at 8:00 AM, in the Orchid Room.

The Symposium “Mentoring-Bridging the Generational Gap” will focus on the importance of mentoring, how young emerging leaders communicate and network; is it different from the Baby Boomers? It will take place between 8:30 AM and 10:15 AM, followed by: “Bridging the Wealth Gap”, presented by New York Life, African American Market, Corporate Vice President Eugene Mitchell, from 10:30 AM until 11:15 AM.

Immediately following the Symposium will be the Business Leaders Luncheon, that will be held in the Monroe and Tuttle Ballrooms, registration begins at 11:15 AM, luncheon to begin at 12:00 Noon.

Keynote Speaker: Maggie Anderson author of “Our Black Year”

Key note address will feature Magarita “Maggie” Anderson, Margarita, a first-generation Cuban-American, who grew up and attended school in Miami’s Liberty City, who now resides in Oak Park, Illinois where she and her family made history and dominated headlines as national media covered their year-long stand living exclusively off businesses, and professionals coming from the African American community for an entire year. This first-ever real-life case study in self-help economics was called The Empowerment Experiment (EE).

Maggie is also the author of the critically acclaimed book, Our Black Year. Publishers Weekly called it “Dynamite!” and “an effective probe into how African Americans spend so much money that overwhelmingly leaves their communities.” Library Journal raved, “Anderson’s book successfully illuminates the racial divide that continues to persist in the U.S. economy.

The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce will recognize outstanding Chamber members in the following categories: Corporate Business of the Year, Dexter Foster Small Business Organization of the Year, Non-Profit Organization of the Year, Rising Star of the Year, and Board Member of the Year, during the luncheon.
