Central Broward Regional Park hosts International Cricket

LAUDERHILL – Central Broward Regional Park and the Cricket Council U.S.A. will host the three-day Memorial Day weekend MAQ T20 INTERNATIONAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT ’08, for all ages, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 23, 24, and 25. Top former and current 20/20 all-star cricketers from India, Pakistan, the West Indies, and the United States will compete.

The event starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 23, with a welcome reception and opening ceremony. Then, at 4:30 p.m., Game 1 pits Pakistan against World XI, followed by Game 2, India vs. West Indies, at 8 p.m. Saturday’s Game 3, featuring World XI vs. West Indies, begins at 11 a.m., and Game 4, with India going up against Pakistan, starts at 3 p.m.

The day ends with a “Cricket Nights to Remember” concert at 7 p.m., with Bob Marley’s son Ky-mani, Allison Hinds, Marcia Griffiths, the Florida Melody Makers Band, and the code Red Band among the Caribbean-flavored acts. Game 5, between the third- and fourth-place teams, will commence at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The final match, between the first- and second-place teams, gets under way at 3 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. awards ceremony and another evening concert at 7 p.m.

The format for the games will be 20/20 cricket, a short, dynamic version of the popular sport that limits play length to approximately that of an average baseball game. Tickets will be priced as follows: reserved grandstand seating – $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and Sunday; general admission – free Friday, $10 Saturday and Sunday ($20 after 5 p.m. on Saturday); VIP concert seating – $75.
