Caricom Heads of Government meeting in Grenada concludes

GRENADA – Antigua & Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. W. Baldwin Spencer, says a number of major decisions were made at the recently concluded Heads of Government Meeting on Governance held in Grenada.

Antigua and Barbuda’s leader says the heads decided that a council of ambassadors from each Caricom member state should be established to enhance government structures in Caricom.

He says the selected ambassadors will have a link between the Caricom Secretariat and their member states.

Spencer says the overall operations of the secretariat were also discussed.

He adds that because the Secretariat has clearly defined roles under the Treaty of Chaguaramas, follow up discussions are necessary on the issue.

The Heads also decided to set up a search committee to find a replacement for outgoing Secretary General, Edwin Carrington.

Prime Minister Spencer returns to Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
