Orlando, FL – The second town hall meeting involving Consuls General and Honorary Consuls representing countries of the Caribbean will be held on Saturday, November 5, at 10am in Orlando.
The town hall meeting will be held one day after the Consuls General and Honorary Consuls meet with various law enforcement officials in Orange county and surrounding counties to discuss law enforcement issues facing the Caribbean community in central Florida.
“This second town hall meeting builds on the overwhelming success of the first meeting, which was held in Orlando in February 2005,” stated Gail Seeram, Secretary/Treasurer of the Caribbean Bar Association’s Central Florida Chapter, and one of the organizers of the weekend’s events.
Over the span of a weekend during the last week of February 2005, Consuls General and Honorary Consuls traveled from south Florida to meet with educational administrators, government officials, business leaders, Caribbean Americans and other interested parties to discuss the following matters affecting the Caribbean community in central Florida – trade/investment, education, sports/art/culture, hurricane relief and law enforcement.
From those series of successful meetings spawned the idea of both a private meeting between the Conference of Heads of Caribbean Organizations in Central Florida, the Consuls General and Honorary Consuls, and various law enforcement officials in central Florida on November 4, and a second town hall meeting on November 5.
Hundreds of Caribbean Americans are expected to turn out for the town hall meeting on November 5. The meeting is intended to give Caribbean nationals an opportunity to discuss procedures for dealing with consular matters including passport renewals, life certificate authentication, immigration related issues and any other matter of import to the Caribbean community in central Florida.
Consular representatives from the following countries are expected to be present: Antigua, Bermuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
