Caribbean National Weekly and WTVJ-NBC6 sign promotional agreement

FT. LAUDERDALE – On June 5th, The Caribbean National Weekly (CNW) newspaper became the first Caribbean-American publication to enter into a Promotional Agreement with a major U.S. television network, when it signed such an agreement with WTVJ-NBC6.

Dr. Garth Rose, managing editor, Caribbean National Weekly, and Yvette Miley, Vice President and Director of news for WTVJ-NBC6 signed the historic agreement, which had been in negotiations for over three months. The signing took place at WTVJ-NBC6 office in Miramar.

Under the terms of the Promotional Agreement, NBC6, reporter Sharon Lawson, will be a featured columnist for CNW and CNWeeklynews.com, the publication’s website. The column, “News Round Up” will feature news highlights produced and broadcasted by NBC6. The Network will also submit a weekly weather forecast to the newspaper.

CNW will provide NBC6 with information that is relevant to the Caribbean region and the Diaspora. NBC6 will have sole discretion to use this information in order to formulate newscasts and features for broadcast.

The Directors of CNW are determined to forge linkages with alternative media enterprises, both Caribbean and non-Caribbean, with the objective of disseminating news and information to bring greater awareness to our community.

Although the Caribbean population in Florida is estimated to be well over 700,000, it is our consensus that the community is not been adequately represented by the media. It is too vibrant a community to be under represented.

CNW hopes that the Promotional Agreement signed with NBC6 will be a major benefit to the Caribbean-American community, and the beginning of major and positive recognition by the U.S. media.
