Caribbean Music Ambassador Machel Montano and Congresswoman Wilson Inspire over 700 Caribbean Students

MIAMI  – A raucous and passionate gathering of over 700 college students of Caribbean descent welcomed Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and Caribbean music ambassador Machel Montano to the 40thLeadership Conference of the Florida Caribbean Students Association at Miami Dade College, North Campus on April 4th through April 5th, 2014 under the them, “Empowering the Next Generation of Caribbean Leaders”.

On a perfect South Florida morning, students participated in an Opening Plenary Session where they heard from Miami Dade College North Campus President, Malou Harrison, City of Miramar Commissioner Alexandra Davis, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and Keynote Speaker Machel Montano.

After the Opening Ceremony and roll of call of the countries of heritage of the Association’s student body, the students participated in an array of personal and professional development workshops aimed towards preparing and empowering them for their next journey in leadership.

“I am proud to present this Proclamation from the floor of the U.S. Congress to commend the Florida Caribbean Students Association for its commitment to educational growth and empowerment of Florida college and university students of Caribbean descent,” stated Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, District 17.

“We are one by history with blood, sweat and tears. We must nurture this history. Most importantly, to be a leader you must have vision, integrity, and compassion.  To lead, you must be prepared to dream, plan, implement, and execute your vision.  We have the power to be world contributors,” stated Machel Montano, 2014 Power Soca Monarch, of Trinidad & Tobago.

“From the talent and cultural activities to the workshops with professionals we respect and admire, our 2014 Conference was a memorable experience in our collegiate life.  We are more prepared to succeed in life,” noted Fabrice Stuart, President, Florida Caribbean Student Association.
